That's the magic number.
Last fall, Johnny brought up the idea of doing RAAM on a single speed. With Lincoln already sporting a RAAM vet in Bill Moser, I pinged Rock D on the idea and he fired back some info and appreciated thoughts on next steps.
Research on how to qualify, quickly lead to a 24hr event in Iowa that would fulfill that requirement. 425 miles in 24 hours. 17.708333... mph.

Make sure you talk to Bill before jumping off the cliff.
If you need a crew I'm there for you.
There's a qualifier in Sebring Florida this coming weekend. I qualified at both Sebring and Iowa last year.
Neither one has any sustained climbing to speak of, but they both have a few short steep climbs that rip you to shreds over time. This is definitely "type 2" fun.
RAAM is in another league.
The thing to realize about RAAM is that it is extremely expensive. Keeping fuel in two or three support vehicles, feeding and housing crew, let alone the rider's needs. It's equally stressful on crew and riders.
If you're seriously considering RAAM you might consider crewing for another team first, just to see what you're getting into.

Gee, what a wonderfully negative vibe.
Respectfully retract my statements.
Umm, sorry.
Type 2 fun is still fun.
